Arcwave Ion
How the heck do I use this thing?

Men, have you ever been jealous of just how hard women can cum? A lot of that is because they have a clit which has no purpose other than pleasure (and because you’re a scholar who has learned all about how to please your woman from our articles, right?). But what if I told you that you can stimulate the male equivalent of a clit using the same technology from those clit suckers that are selling like hot cakes? Well you can with the Arcwave Ion.

That’s right, Arcwave have brought some of the same technology from women’s toys directly to your hands and as long as you’re willing to be patient, you can have the closest thing to a female orgasm just for yourself. But how does it work and what’s the guy equivalent of a clit? Read on and I’ll tell you all about the Arcwave Ion and how to use it.

TL;DR

4/5

Arcwave Ion
A female orgasm, for men

Arcwave delivers the full package with clever features and Pleasure Air technology delivery a truly unique sensation for men.

Pros

  • Unique sensation can feel really good when positioned properly
  • All in one case, charger, and dryer is very convenient

Cons

  • Slightly unusual sensation requires time to adjust to
  • The device and the case are quite large for what it is
  • Quite expensive for the features

First Impressions

If you have read any of my other reviews of Arcwave products, you have already seen me rave about the quality of the packaging so I won’t bore you with more of the same here. I’ll simply say, its very well done and it makes the entire process of buying an Arcwave toy a very happy experience.

Arcwave Ion charging case
Seriously. This does not look lewd at all.

Once you do open the box you are greeted with… well something that doesn’t really look like a sex toy. There is a simple and elegant looking storage case that looks like something you would find on the shelf at Brookstone or Bed Bath and Beyond (in this case, way beyond). Next to that is the Ion itself. If I didn’t know what it was, I would be entirely confused. It does not look anatomical at all and there are not any hints as to what it might be.

But what it is, is a very well made piece of sex tech. The silicone sleeve is made from Arcwave’s CleanTech silicone that I continue to be impressed with. It does not have any manufacturing marks and feels very nice though does love to attract my dog’s hair, sorry about any of that in the photos. The other half of the device is the brains of the operation and has a single LED and a couple of charging contacts on the bottom and just three buttons on the top. The fit an finish is excellent and it has a satisfying heft that really helps justify the premium price that Arcwave is charging.

Not just storage, but charging and drying as well.

Back to the case, there is more here that first meets the eye. In the box there is a right angle USB cable that turns the case into a charging stand. The Ion simply drops into the stand over the DryTech stick. There is also a desiccant pack in the box that is inserted into the DryTech stick to speed drying even more than the ventilated lid of the case already allows. And just in case that isn’t enough, the desiccant pack is also microwaveable so you can reuse it quite a few times before you need to buy a new one. Handy!

A New Kind of Pleasure

The Arcwave Ion uses a targeted approach to male pleasure that is distinctly different from other strokers. It directly stimulates the frenulum. But what exactly is the frenulum and how do you stimulate it?

What is the Frenulum Anyway

The frenulum is a critical but often unknown component of male sexual pleasure. Found on the underside of the penis where the head meets the shaft, this elastic band of tissue is densely packed with sensitive nerve endings or Pacinian receptors. In fact, there are more nerve endings here than any other part of the penis, making it homologous to the clitoris. Pacinian receptors are most sensitive to pressure changes and vibrations and research has linked stimulation of these nerves to particularly intense sensation and orgasms. As part of the highly sensitive inner foreskin, the frenulum can produce significant sexual arousal when stimulated correctly, almost akin to the clitoral stimulation experienced by women.

Frenulum Stimulation

Frenulum stimulation is not something most men have experienced and obviously isn’t a standard feature in many male pleasure toys. Part of that is because the Pacinian receptors in the frenulum do not respond to the typical grip it and rip it strategy of most wank sessions. Instead they need a light and soft touch, unsurprising given the similarity to the female clitoris. These sensations can be quite powerful but often take a while to build and respond differently for different people so experiment a bit.

Pleasure Air Stimulation

The Arcwave Ion’s unique pleasure comes from its Pleasure Air technology. Pleasure Air is adapted from a similar technology in use by their sister company Womanizer on their wildly popular clit sucking toys. It may seem odd at first because the Ion doesn’t rely on familiar stroking or vibrating sensations you are used to seeing. Instead, it uses pulsating airwaves focused on the frenulum, offering a deeply gratifying sensation. These pulses are ideally suited for stimulating the Pacinian receptors of the frenulum, providing both pressure change and a mild vibration. This unique stimulation method can drive you to an orgasm that’s decidedly different and arguably more powerful than what traditional strokers offer.

Hands On

After you’ve charged up your Ion (which takes about 2 hours) you are ready to go. The package includes a small packet of lube but feel free to use your favorite lube as long as it is water based. The Ion isn’t really designed for stroking so you don’t need much at all, just enough to easily slide your erect dick into the sleeve. And yes, you do need to be hard or at least well on your way there before you are able to use the Ion. A short press of the “+” button is enough to wake up the device, giving you a short rumble to know that it is on.

Arcwave Ion Smart Silence sensor
That little hole is where the sensations come from.

But wait, why isn’t it happily rumbling away? Well that is because of the Smart Silence feature that is on by default. The Ion has a sensor that only turns on the actuator when it is fully covered by your dick, or whatever else you feel like stuffing in there. This is really handy because the Pleasure Air actuator is actually quite loud if your dick isn’t in the way to muffle it. And if you’re able to tolerate the highest intensity settings of the Ion it can actually get a bit unpleasant on the head of your dick so it is nice in that regard as well. If you are finding it difficult to keep the Ion active when you’re in the right position, you can turn Smart Silence off by holding the mute button for one second. The LED in the button will turn off if you did it right.

Arcwave Ion with correct positioning for use
Don't just bury your dick into it, correct positioning is essential!

Arcwave cautions that the stimulation can be quite intense and very different than you are used to and I have to agree. It took me a few sessions before I was able to climax using the Ion. There is an opening inside the sleeve where the air pulses come from and this needs to be positioned over your frenulum for best effect. I also found that a very mild stroking, no more than half an inch or so really helped, at least at the beginning. You can increase the intensity through all 8 levels using the + button and drop it back down with the - button when it is inevitably too intense. What I found works great is to instead control the intensity by pressing down over the head of my dick with my thumb, pushing my shaft down against the air pulsing.

This really is an entirely different kind of sensation. I found my orgasms from the Ion to be almost like edging. They take quite a while to develop but are extremely powerful. Arcwave claims the battery to last 70 minutes and I don’t see any reason to doubt that, I’ve had some pretty long sessions with the Ion.

Closing Thoughts

Between the unusually powerful orgasms that the Ion gives me and the wide open end of the sleeve, you may find yourself making a bit of a mess. The entire device is IPX7 water resistant so if you want you can simply rinse the entire device under running water. But the Ion actually has another trick up its sleeve, literally. The sleeve can be removed from the device with a simple twist, letting you thoroughly clean the Pleasure Air port and the sleeve.

Split in two for easy cleaning.

Since the sleeve is fully removable it also means you can purchase a replacement from Arcwave. Though I’m not really sure why you would need one because it’s not really a stroker so any wear should be minimal and the CleanTech silicone is very high quality. Arcwave also offers a 100 day money back guarantee if you find the Ion doesn’t work for you and a 2 year factory warranty for any defects that might spring up.

Worth It?

The Ion is undoubtedly a premium product with a $199 price tag, but it really is without any clear competitors. There are a few other frenulum toys out there but none really stimulate in the same way. If you’re looking for options though I would look at:

  • Lovense Gush that places vibrations on your sensitive glans
  • Lelo F1S V2 that uses sonic waves to target the same pleasure receptors
  • Fun Factory Manta that uses traditional vibrations directly on the frenulum
  • Kiiroo Pulse Solo that uses a pulsating plate to target the same pleasure receptors

I would not choose the Ion as my only toy, but it is a fantastic option to have. If I have some free time on my hands I love to grab the Ion and let the sensations really build into some of the best orgasms I’ve ever had.
