TL;DR

2.5/5

Arcwave Pow
Premium stroker with suction control

Arcwave brings their premium silicone to the midrange market with moderate success.

Pros

  • Premium feeling CleanTech Silicone
  • Ventilated lids for effortless drying
  • Very unoffensive looking

Cons

  • Suction is not very effective
  • Can get quite loud

Features

The Pow is constructed from Arcwave’s premium quality body safe “CleanTech Silicone”. Arcwave says that their silicone is extra smooth resulting in an easier to clean and more hygienic product, and I’m inclined to believe them. It feels very good against your skin and does not show any visible manufacturing marks. It is also BPA, latex and phthalate free so you don’t need to worry about side effects from any weird chemicals.

The standout feature of the Pow is the suction control technology. Arcwave uses their premium materials and tight engineering tolerances to deliver this suction without any batteries. They also used removable end caps to make the Pow dual ended with each end having a different size. This makes the Pow able to handle different sized men and delivers different sensations.

First Impressions

The Pow is packaged in a cylindrical container that is covered in Arcwave’s branding and the features of the toy. It is helpfully shipped in discrete packaging without any suggestive sounding labels or branding on it though. Mine came in a simple Tyvek mailing bag but I have heard of other’s shipping in cardboard boxes. Even with the minimal protection provided by a bag, the packaging seems to be substantial enough and did a good job of protecting the actual toy.

No wasted packaging here.

Opening the tube you’re greeted by the device. The first thing I thought of is that it looks like a bluetooth speaker. The Pow is a simple, but nicely textured plastic, cylinder about 7 inches long and 2.75 inches wide and has a satisfying heft. It is clear that Arcwave used a decent amount of silicone in making this thing. There are a few vents around the outside and one end helpfully has spiraling grooves to help you grip it. There’s really nothing offensive looking about it at all, I don’t feel like this is one of those toys that needs to be hidden away all the time incase that innocent friend happens to take a peek. It just looks like… a speaker.

Hands On

Now, getting down to business… As the included instruction manual (seriously, why do these things always have instructions, it doesn’t take a genius to figure out you stick your dick in it) says, you need to remove the end cap before using. This was actually more difficult than I expected. I actually thought I was going to break it while I was trying to twist the end cap loose. I guess this makes sense though because a tight fit is required in order to get a good seal for the suction effect to work. You’ll need to pick which end you want to use first because once this thing or your hands get any lube on it, good luck getting the other end cap off to turn the toy around. From there you simply apply some water based lube to the inside of the sleeve and your penis and have fun.

Arcwave Pow internal texture
The internal texture is a gentle spiral with sculpted ridges.

The CleanTech silicone sleeve has a simple swirling texture of sculpted ridges. This gentle spiral is part of what Arcwave calls their Quick Clean Helix design. They claim that the helix works with the Quick-dry Ventilation Lids for easy cleaning and fast drying. The texturing on the sleeve is firm enough to actually be felt in use, there is a distinct but gentle twisting action from the spiral and I could feel the ridges sliding over my frenulum. Nice work here Arcwave.

Arcwave Pow being held for use
The air release is not very comfortable to reach while using.

One of the end caps features a simple air pressure release valve. Arcwave claims that this valve makes the silicone sleeve tighten, causing a natural and controllable suction without using batteries. In practice however… it seems to be less than effective. To start with, I had trouble even placing my finger on the valve while also maintaining a useful grip on the rest of the device, and I have hands well above average. Even while firmly holding down the valve, I didn’t really notice a difference. What did make a difference though was covering the vents on the side, as soon as I did the suction was obvious. It did require a lot of lube in order for it to work and resulted in kind of a loud…. farting sound. Covering those vents is also a bit of a challenge, even for my large hands. Most people shouldn’t have a problem covering two out of three though which still does cause a noticeable amount of suction.

Despite the lackluster suction effect, the Pow did manage to finish the job for me. The sensations were not as strong as other toys that I’ve had the pleasure of trying though. Once the job was done though the Pow had no problems containing my load. That’s not to say that it was a clean experience though, the amount of lube required to get the the suction effect to work meant that the whole bottom of the toy was slick, and eventually sticky, from lube.

Closing Thoughts

The design of the Pow does seem to work quite well for keeping the toy clean. The CleanTech Silicone does not absorb anything and easily rinses clean with water. The Quick Clean Helix easily channels water everywhere it needs to go without any nooks or crannies for nastiness to get stuck in. A couple quick shakes seemed to shed all the water from the inside of the sleeve and when I returned a couple hours later, the Quick-dry Ventilation lids did indeed allow the inside of the toy to dry completely. It’s probably still a good idea to deep clean your Pow every now and then and the sleeve is easily removed from the shell to do this.

The sleeve is easily removable for cleaning.

The silicone sleeve does seem to be very durable but it is always possible to wear it out. While Arcwave does have a 2 year warranty it only covers defects, not regular wear and tear. If you do manage to wear it out, you will have to purchase an entirely new toy as Arcwave does not sell a replacement sleeve.

Alternatives

While the suction effect that the Pow promises is pretty unique for battery free masturbators, it was fairly underwhelming. If you’re looking for similar options, you’ve got plenty. There is a plethora of smaller online brands that seem to pop up every week and of course the big brands all have their own variety of hard sided wank sleeves. In my opinion, the most similar option is probably the Fleshlight Quickshot .

Worth It?

If you’re looking for a hard sided masturbation sleeve and you need something discrete, the Pow is a great option. It’s completely inoffensive appearance is probably it’s greatest feature since the suction doesn’t really deliver. But in my opinion the $69 price tag isn’t really justified compared to the alternatives. To me the best value around is still one of Arcwave’s other toys, the Ghost.
