If you haven’t heard of Lovense before, they are well known for their interactive toys and their fantastic app for controlling them. The first version of the Max was one of their original interactive toys and now they are back with a better than ever version, the Lovense Max 2.

The Max 2 brings a brand new method of stimulation. It contracts around your dick to really mix up the sensations and simulate sex better than ever. Read on to see if it lives up to the hype and decide if it might be the next toy in your toybox.

First Impressions

The experience of Lovense products is high quality from start to finish, and it starts with the ordering experience and the packaging. Ordering direct from Lovense’s website is very easy with quick and discreet shipping. The packaging is well done and protects your purchase with no excess. The box contains the Max 2, a magnetic USB charging cable and a full user manual.

The Max itself is a simple looking white ABS plastic cylinder. At just over 3 inches in diameter and 9.5 inches long, it is not a small toy but the edges are scalloped just enough to provide an effective grip despite the 1.65 lbs of weight.

One end of the device has the Max’s only 2 control buttons on the side. The end has a simple toggle valve to control the suction level, an emergency air release in case the contractions become too much, a vent for the air pump, and the magnetic charger. The two pin magnetic charger is common to many Lovense toys and is one of my favorite features. It is very well done and I have never left the Max to charge and been disappointed when I later find that it has come undone and is not finished charging.

Hands On

After patiently letting your new toy charge for 2 hours you’re finally ready to use it! The end cap opens up with a simple twist to reveal a plain looking clear TPE sleeve with a neutral entrance. Or if you prefer, Lovense sells a (add on) pink realistic vagina sleeve.

Control

The Max can be controlled either by the buttons directly on the device or by pairing with your phone and using the Lovense Remote App. You simply hold the top button for a couple of seconds and the device turns on, repeating the same process to turn it off. The top button then cycles through 3 different vibration power levels and 4 different vibration patterns. The bottom button controls the contractions and cycles through three different levels.

If you want more control you need to pair with the Lovense Remote App through a simple process. When you’re connected to the app you get simple but powerful controls:

• Touch controlled sliders to control vibration and contractions
• Programmable patterns and a pattern gallery
• Send a link to a partner to control your toy or connect with random strangers

The remaining controls on the Max are a sliding toggle valve that controls the amount of suction inside the sleeve and a simple push button air release to immediately release any contractions if things become too much.

Stroker

The Max is first and foremost, a penis stroker, and it certainly does not disappoint in this respect. While it isn’t quite as easy to hold as some fully manual strokers, the grip sculpting makes it easy enough and when you turn on the other sensation you won’t be stroking nearly as much as you would with a manual toy anyway. If you do manage to get a ton of lube on the outside of the toy, the hard ABS plastic does get a little slick, but a quick wipe is all it takes to fix that.

Put a few drops of water based lube on the entrance of the sleeve and rub some more lube on your dick until you’re good and hard (you will need to be hard to get into the sleeve). The TPE material of the sleeve does a pretty good job feeling like skin. It is very soft and smoothly glides over your own skin. Once you are inside, you will feel the two different kinds of texturing inside the sleeve. I was very surprised to find that the Max feels even better than many dedicated strokers out there before even turning on the extra features.

On the top end of the Max there is a sliding suction control that can be reached even while using the toy (as long as your hands aren’t too small). The Max was able to generate a surprising amount of suction with this valve fully closed. Like, full on mac and cheese sounds levels of suction. Seriously, the sounds can get pretty intense.

Lovense says that the Max fits all sizes but in my experience it is pretty tight for above average girths.

Vibrations

Inside the Max there is a surprisingly large vibrating motor. Like, so large that they had to cut out part of the sleeve to accommodate it. This has a noticeable side effect of localizing the vibrations. The vibrations are significantly stronger on the top side of your dick where the motor is.

The size of the motor does mean that the Max can vibrate quite hard. If you are a fan of strong vibrations, the Max will definitely make you happy. The vibrations can get a bit loud though if you let the shell of the Max touch anything other than your skin. The high power of the vibrations means that you can really have fun with patterns because you have a lot of range to play with.

My only complaint about the vibrator on the Max is that it is mostly just a dull buzzy vibration without any rumbly quality at all. I find that a bit of variation to the texture of the vibrations really helps build the sensations.

Contractions

The unique feature of the Max is the contractions, simulating a woman’s body clamping down on you. These contracts are thankfully unlike the vibrations and happen all the way around you and the full length as well.

When you are using the button to control the contractions, you are limited to a simple pulsating pattern with a constant speed and can choose from 3 different strengths of contraction. As I’m a bit of a thick gentleman I find the strongest contraction to be like trying to have sex with a brick wall. The middle setting is borderline but the lowest setting provided wonderful sensations.

The real fun comes when using the app though. In the app you are able to control the speed and pressure in real time to really have fun with it. There are lots of patterns available in the app that are created especially for the Max that play with the contractions and vibrations independently.

Long Distance

An amazing feature of the Lovense Remote App is the ability to pair up with certain other Lovense toys and sync them up. This means that the motions of your Max can control the vibrations of another Max, Nora rabbit vibrator, or Calor stroker.

This is a ton of fun and a great option for long distance couples. Don’t get your hopes up too high though, the sync function is only sensitive to motion of the Max itself. So you can’t mount it and pound away, you still have to use it like a stroker.

Closing Thoughts

When you’ve had your fun, the sleeve is easily removable and open ended for easy rinsing in the sink. This is nice but is honestly just an expected feature from a stroking toy.

The downside though is that the open end allows lube, and other fluids, to escape the sleeve into the inside of the Max. While the Max is IPX6 water resistant, this only means that it is able to stand up to running water but shouldn’t be submerged, for use or for cleaning. Even with running water, it is hard to get the inside of the toy cleaned completely because the end is closed.

Worth It

I have had the Lovense Max 2 for a long time, it was my very first interactive toy purchase. I think it is a great purchase for exactly that, your first interactive toy. If you are a seasoned toy user, there are more advanced options that you can have more fun with but if you’re just getting into it, the Lovense is a great option for you and your partner. And because the Max is a few years old at this point, it is now an exceptional value.
