So-Low lotion on a hand
Get ready for some me time

Have you been settling for any old lotion, or worse yet, just your spit, when it’s time for some me time? Or maybe you’re a proper gentleman who opts for your favorite lube instead? What if I told you there was an even better option? There is, and it is So-Low Lotion by Hello Cake.

So-Low Lotion was designed specifically to improve a man’s personal time. It applies as a smooth cream before transforming into an even smoother gliding lotion that sticks around until the job is done. And the best part? It does it all without a mess and leaves your mitts, and your Johnson, feeling silky smooth.

The pump top is game changing

If you buy direct from Hello Cake like I did, your lube comes well packaged in a discrete box. Right out of the gate it is obvious how much Cake cares about their products and your experience. Despite being a nondescript cardboard box on the outside, the inside is adorned with their pleasingly simple branding. The lube itself is packaged in a simple cardboard container with no excess materials.

When you open the container you’re greeted with the lube itself in a simple but durable plastic bottle. It even comes with a cap which is really appreciated if you travel a lot like I do (hello long distance relationships). But the first standout feature is underneath the cap of the bottle, a pump top dispenser. Not only does this prevent those pesky messes we’ve all dealt with at some point, but it also keeps you from overdoing it. A little goes a long way with this stuff, and this design ensures you get just the right amount, every time.

Ingredients and Safety

Cake as a company believes in only using the highest quality and ethically sourced ingredients. This really shows here as it is dye free, fragrance free, gluten free, made with vegan ingredients, and free from animal cruelty. The full list of the ingredients and why they are included is:

  • Water (duh?)
  • Coconut Oil, Sweet Almond Oil, Avocado Oil, Evening Primrose Oil, Aloe Leaf Juice, and Ginko Biloboa Leaf Extract - Natural ingredients to get that lovely glide.
  • Tocopheryl Acetate - a form of Vitamin E, as an antioxidant to help protect your skin.
  • Cetyl, Cetearyl, and Stearyl Alcohols to further enhance the lubrication and to moisturize your skin. These are fatty alcohols which are much better for your skin than ethyl alcohols that can dry it out.
  • Ethylhexyl Palmitate, Dimethicone, Glycerin to provide even more moisture for your skin.
  • Phenoxyethanol, Ethylhexylglycerin to preserve the lotion for up to 1 year after opening.
  • Ceteareth-20, Carbomer to keep the lotion from separating.
  • Aminomethyl Propanol to bring the pH to a nice and balanced 7.4
  • Tetrasodium EDTA to keep the lotion stable.

All of these ingredients are rated as “fair” or better by the Environmental Working Group . It’s worth noting that many of the natural oils are capable of causing an allergic reaction so be sure to take a close look at the list and try a patch test first if you are unsure. If you want more information about ingredients in lube and their potential health effects, read our article on ingredients to avoid in lube.

Cake says that So-Low Lotion is compatible with all of their toys (yes even the silicone ones). However, it is intended to be used externally only and is incompatible with latex condoms. So if you’re just starting the pregame and hoping to move to the main event, have a quick rinse with some water or maybe a Cake Sex Wipe to avoid any potential discomfort for your partner (and maybe switch to Cake Tush Cush or Cake Silicone lube for more fun).

Use

Here’s where the magic really happens. Ever tried to use some regular lube and end up with it running everywhere and leaving wet spots or stains? Not with this! It applies as a smooth cream and transforms from your body heat into a gentle gliding lotion that stays where it needs to be without dripping. Once applied and warmed up, it takes on a luxurious gliding feeling that provides just enough lubrication to keep the sensations going without taking away any of the pleasant friction.

And melts into a gliding lotion

One or two presses of the pump top on top of the bottle is all it takes to apply the lotion, directly into your hand or your favorite toy (maybe add an extra pump if you’re using a toy), without any mess. If you need more later, which you probably won’t because this stuff lasts, it’s easy to go back for another pump, without getting your bottle sticky. If you manage to outlast the lotion, you absolute machine, it doesn’t get tacky like many other lubes, you just start getting a little more friction.

When you’re finally done with the job is where the neatest little trick of So-Low comes in. There’s literally no cleanup! The lotion is exactly that, a lotion. It is designed to simply absorb into your skin and leave you feeling smooth and moisturized. And no need to worry about any drips either unless you use way too much.

Worth It?

Absolutely.

While it isn’t the cheapest lube out there, I paid $18 when I bought the bottle for this review, but I believe the benefits of So-Low justify the price. It’s honestly the lube I reach for when I need a little solo play time. The only time I might grab something else is if I’m going for a really long session or planning to use a remote control toy with my LDR partner.

I really love that all I need to do is grab a quick pump, have my fun, wipe with a tissue, and then go back to whatever else I need to do. I don’t need to worry about any mess and my skin is nice and soft as a side benefit. Plus I don’t mind spending a little extra to get high quality product and support Cake’s mission .
